The
business was founded in 1899 in Byron Street Inverell and was then
comprised of various departments based around the core areas of
Grocery and Crockery. The store sold everything “from a packet of
needles to a bale of hay”. Harry Fay I, did not wait for business
to come to him, as he travelled throughout the district in a horse
drawn vehicle accepting orders. Through his devotion and hard work
the business flourished and expanded along
Byron Street
, and later to encompass stores in the towns of Moree, Warialda, and
Texas
. 109 years later it is controlled by the third generation of the
Fay family and still is guided by the same basic principle that
“the customer is always right” …
